SPC Vice-president Urges Enhanced Cooperation Among Legal Professionals to Better IPR Judicial Protection

Strengthening exchanges and cooperation of the community of legal professionals and innovating judicial protection of intellectual property rights (IPRs) was stressed by Luo Dongchuan, vice-president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) and head of the SPC's Intellectual Property Court on May 29.

Luo attended a seminar hosted by the Intellectual Property Court and the intellectual property professional committee of the All China Lawyers Association.

At the meeting, Luo welcomed the delegation led by the committee's director Wang Zhengzhi and pointed out that as participants of IPR cases and providers of legal services, lawyers are playing a more and more important role in IPR judicial protection. Therefore, the construction of the legal professional community should be strengthened to build China into a powerful country in terms of science and technology.

Luo stressed that talent cultivation is the core of judicial protection of IPR and first-class IPR legal talent teams should be built.

Meanwhile, a regular communication mechanism should be established to improve exchanges, to promote mutual learning and to create a sound, harmonious and healthy relationship between judges and lawyers.

Online litigation and setting more transparent and efficient litigation proceedings were also highlighted by Luo.

Lawyer representatives praised the Intellectual Property Court’s achievements since its establishment and shared their suggestions on optimizing relevant legislations, improving the litigation experience, and future development of the court.

Also present at the meeting were deputy chief judges of the Intellectual Property Court including Wang Chuang, Zhou Xiang, and Li Jian, heads of the intellectual property professional committee of the All China Lawyers Association, heads of the patents committee of the Beijing Lawyers Association as well as lawyer representatives.
